Power Quality Solutions
Four problems account for most of the power quality work we do. If any of these sound like your plant, the fix is well understood and the payback is usually measurable.
Harmonic Analysis & Network Study
Problem
Nuisance tripping, overheating transformers and capacitors, unexplained equipment failures, or a grid connection requirement you cannot meet.
What we do
Measurement of harmonic voltages and currents on the supply where the equipment will be installed
Simulation of the interaction between supply impedance and candidate filter configurations
Calculation and specification of filter components
Verification measurement after installation
Outcome
A documented THD figure that meets IEEE, IEC or G5/4 limits, and a specified equipment list to get there.

Passive Harmonic Filtering & Detuned Systems
Problem
Harmonic distortion is damaging capacitors and shortening equipment life, and the load profile is stable enough that a fixed solution works.
What we do
Capacitor and reactor combinations tuned to the specific harmonic order to be eliminated, with detuning at 135, 190 or 215 Hz for 50 Hz networks depending on the distortion profile.
Outcome
Reactive compensation and harmonic protection in one installation, at lower cost than active filtering.
Active Filtering & Reactive Power Conditioning
Problem
Load conditions vary too quickly or too unpredictably for passive filtering. Drives, rectifiers, welding plant or unbalanced single-phase loads.
What we do
Active harmonic filters that inject compensating current in real time, or reactive power conditioners that handle compensation, filtering and load balancing in one unit.
Outcome
Correction that tracks the load instead of assuming it, with no risk of resonance with the supply.

SVC and STATCOM
Problem
Large, fast-changing loads causing voltage flicker and dips — arc furnaces, rolling mills, crushers, traction supply. Or a weak connection point that needs voltage support.
What we do
Thyristor-controlled static VAr compensators, or converter-based STATCOM systems where response speed and performance at low voltage matter.
Outcome
Flicker within limits, stable voltage at the point of common coupling, and a connection the utility will accept.

Most power quality problems are misdiagnosed before they are mis-solved. Send us your electricity bills, transformer data or a description of the symptoms, and we will tell you what the problem actually is before quoting equipment for it.
